Hello all. The aim of this posting is to help us (teachers, students, supervisors, parents, administrators, etc) share some of our experiences in teaching and/or learning a second language. You may pose (or reply to) a question, a concern, a teaching problem, a learning obstacle, a comment, and the like. These issues should be pedagogical but could be either hypothetical or practical.
Where applicable, we should try our best to make our topics as clear as possible, providing details and specifics, so that others will have a better understanding of the issues under discussion. It would be better not to comment on your own topic until it has received, at least, one response
Remember, there is usually no right or wrong answer. The aim is to get as many perspectives as possible on the same issue, so that we benefit from each other. And, of course, we can wear different hats! For example, I can be a teacher, a student, a parent, etc. We should not, however, pose a new question/concern unless the previous one has received, at least, one response. This way no one will get ignored
Enough of talking and let me start! In this scenario, I am a teacher who receives a letter (in Arabic) from a parent of one of my students in grade 4 of basic education. Translation of the letter reads "Dear teacher, I would like to help my son in the English subject. I would like to help him speak and write English well. The problem is that I do not know English. Please advise as to what I can do! Yours." As a teacher (even if you are not a teacher, you may wear the teaching hat), what could my advice be to the parent? p
